The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is seeking to recruit several temporary and permanent Human Resource Officers (APS 5 classification level) and Human Resource Managers (APS 6 classification level). Most of the roles will be temporary (a minimum of 6 months; potentially up to 18 months).

About the area

The Human Resource Officer and Manager roles to be filled are in the People Management and Wellbeing Section (PMaW). PMaW is a virtual team, working across the ABS Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne and Hobart offices and provides a national service model to all ten ABS offices. You can work in any of the offices listed.

PMaW is responsible for work health and safety, rehabilitation case management (compensable and non-compensable), performance management, Code of Conduct matters, probation, dispute resolution and redundancy management for the ABS (usually around 2,900 office based and 500 field-based staff).

We are seeking to fill roles with people who are suitably experienced Human Resources professionals in the fields of Work Health and Safety, People Management, and/or Rehabilitation Case Management. HR Generalists are also encouraged to apply.

People Management Advisers provide high level of advice and support to employees and managers on complex performance, conduct, probation and excess staffing situations; as well as addressing workplace conflict, following ABS policies and processes. They provide holistic, solutions focused early intervention and coaching-based advice to assist, prevent or resolve emerging concerns, and assist preparing ABS documentation for external review forums such as the Australian Human Rights Commission, Fair Work Commission and the Federal Court.

Rehabilitation Case Managers (RCMs) provide specialist rehabilitation advice and support to employees and managers, coordinating ‘people centred’ rehabilitation programs to achieve the best outcome for employees and the ABS following injury/illness. RCMs are responsible for effective, targeted and holistic case management and successful return to work of injured/ill employee and are accountable for coordination and monitoring of rehabilitation programs in compliance with the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 and relevant ABS policies and guidelines.

Work Health and Safety (WHS) officers develop and review ABS WHS policies, guidelines, and procedures in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. They also undertake WHS risk management analysis, monitoring and reporting, contribute to corrective action processes, and provide WHS advice to ABS staff.

• will need to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance
