Deitch Studios, also known as Deitch Projects, is a production studio which specializes in works by contemporary artists. It first opened with a performance by Vanessa Beecroft in 1996, and since then the gallery has produced over 250 projects and events open to the public. It possesses a global outlook, which is reflected in its presented projects with artists hailing from over 33 different countries. Though, the gallery doesn’t just feature emerging artists. It also works with and exhibits established artists, as well. And, in fact, the gallery has presented the works of many well known artists.
In addition to projects and exhibits, Deitch Studios also embraces new convergences of performance, art, design, music and film. And, every year at Art Basel Miami Beach, the gallery has presented a band piece which has emerged from the art community. These have been able to spark many interesting and notable performance pieces. Within New York City, the gallery has put on multi media and performance projects with such famous individuals as Madonna, filmmaker Michel Gondry, and even Steven Klein. The gallery has also been known to work with architects and fashion designers. For example, the gallery put on a piece demonstrating the works of Stephen Sprouse in collaboration with Louis Vuitton. In the year between 2005 and 2007, the gallery put on an annual Art Parade held on West Broadway which was successful in attracting 1,000 participants.
In June of 2010, Deitch Projects closed its doors to the public. Now, its website serves as its archives. The types of services that Deitch takes part in includes: art consulting, private are dealing, curatorial projects and publications, and also photographic documentation. The last point, photographic documentation, has been considered a crucial part of the programs within the gallery. And so, 360 degree photographic tours of various installations can be seen on the website.
